Heu­te ist Aus­flug­tag! Der Bus - bis zum letz­ten Platz be­setzt  - bringt uns zu­erst nach Ye­ro­s­ki­pou. Dort be­su­chen wir ein Folk­lore­mu­se­um, in dem al­te Ge­rä­te zur Her­stel­lung von Stof­fen, gro­ße Vor­rats­ge­fä­ße aus Ton, al­te In­stru­men­te und noch viel mehr Din­ge aus der Ver­gan­gen­heit zu be­stau­nen sind.

   To­day is ex­cur­si­on day! The bus - ta­ken to the last se­at - brings us first to Ye­ro­s­ki­pou. The­re we vi­sit a folk­lo­re mu­se­um, whe­re you can mar­vel at old tools for ma­king cloths, big sto­ra­ge ves­sels ma­de of clay, old in­stru­ments and ma­ny mo­re things from the past.

Von dort aus geht es zur by­zan­ti­ni­schen Kir­che Agia Pa­ras­ke­vi, ein Ge­bäu­de aus dem 9. Jahr­hun­dert, das fast voll­stän­dig er­hal­ten ist. Die fünf cha­rak­te­ris­ti­schen Kup­peln sind kreuz­för­mig an­ge­ord­net und im In­ne­ren sieht man noch gro­ße Tei­le der al­ten De­cken­be­ma­lung.

   From the­re we con­ti­nue to the By­zan­ti­ne church of Agia Pa­ras­ke­vi, a 9th cen­tu­ry buil­ding that has be­en al­most com­ple­te­ly pre­ser­ved. The fi­ve cha­rac­te­ristic do­mes are ar­ran­ged in a cross shape and in­si­de you can still see lar­ge parts of the old ce­i­ling pain­ting.
Nach ei­ner klei­nen Stär­kung und den ers­ten Son­nen­strah­len des Ta­ges stei­gen wir wie­der in den Bus und fah­ren ei­ne gu­te Stun­de zu un­se­rem nächs­ten Ziel.   After a little refreshment and the day's first rays of sunshine we get back on the bus and drive a good hour to our next destination.
Es geht in die Ber­ge! Bis heu­te früh war es nicht mal si­cher, ob wir die Städ­te Va­sa und Omo­dos be­su­chen konn­ten, da Schnee vor­aus­ge­sagt war!   It goes to the mountains! Until this morning it was not even sure if we could visit the cities of Vasa and Omodos, as snow had been predicted!
Ei­nen kur­zen Zwi­schen­stopp ma­chen wir auf der Stre­cke, um ei­ne Ma­nu­fak­tur des tra­di­tio­nel­len Lou­k­o­u­mi zu er­le­ben. Im La­den des „Aphro­di­te’s De­light“ kann man durch Glas­schei­ben die An­ge­stell­ten der Fir­ma bei der Zu­be­rei­tung die­ser ty­pisch grie­chi­schen Sü­ßig­keit be­ob­ach­ten und auch vie­le ver­schie­de­ne Sor­ten pro­bie­ren. An­schlie­ßend kau­fen wir na­tür­lich groß ein!   We make a short stopover on the track to experience a factory of the traditional Loukoumi. In the shop of "Aphrodite's Delight" you can see through glass panes the employees of the company in the preparation of this typical Greek candy and also try many different varieties. Of course, we buy a lot!
In Va­sa an­ge­kom­men, ge­hen wir in ei­ne ehe­ma­li­ge Schu­le, die zu ei­nem Mu­se­um um­ge­baut ist. Al­te Fo­tos und Schul­hef­te ver­set­zen uns in die Zeit vor 1900 und zei­gen uns, wie es vor lan­ger Zeit war Schü­ler zu sein.   Once in Vasa, we go to a former school that has been converted into a museum. Old photos and exercise books take us back to the time before 1900 and show us how it was to be students a long time ago.
Ein Mu­se­ums­be­such liegt noch vor uns: das Mu­se­um Zi­va­nia. Dort ler­nen wir, wie ein ty­pisch zy­prio­ti­scher hoch­pro­zen­ti­ger Schnaps, der dem Mu­se­um sei­nen Na­men gab, her­ge­stellt wur­de. Aus den Trau­ben ei­nes be­son­de­ren Bau­mes, der nur in die­ser Re­gi­on wächst, wird Zi­va­nia de­stil­liert. Die Hilfs­mit­tel, die frü­her da­zu ver­wen­det wur­den sind aus­ge­stellt und Chris­ti­na, ei­ne zy­pri­sche Leh­re­rin, er­zählt da­von, dass ih­re Oma noch auf die­se Wei­se Schnaps her­ge­stellt hat­te.   A museum visit is still to come: the Zivania Museum. There we learn how to make a typical Cypriot high-proof schnapps that gave the museum its name. From the grapes of a special tree that grows only in this region, Zivania is distilled. The tools used in the past are exhibited, and Christina, a Cypriot teacher, tells us that her grandmother made schnapps that way.
Nach drei Mu­se­en ha­ben wir uns ei­ne Stär­kung ver­dient! In ei­ner Ta­ver­ne wer­den wir mit al­ler­lei grie­chi­schen Spe­zia­li­tä­ten ver­wöhnt und ma­chen uns an­schlie­ßend mit vol­len Mä­gen auf zum Bus,  der uns nach Omo­dos bringt, ein et­was tou­ris­ti­sche­res Städt­chen mit ei­nem al­ten Klos­ter. In­ner­halb der Klos­ter­mau­ern steht ei­ne gro­ße Kir­che, in der ge­ra­de ein Got­tes­dienst statt­fin­det.   After three museums we deserve a refreshment! In a tavern we are spoiled with all sorts of Greek specialties and then, with full stomachs, we go on the bus, which brings us to Omodos, a little more touristy town with an old monastery. Within the monastery walls is a large church, where a church service is taking place.
Der wirk­lich letz­te Halt ist schließ­lich am Pe­tra tou Ro­miou. Di­rekt an der Küs­te liegt ein gro­ßer Fel­sen im Was­ser, der ei­ner Sa­ge nach der Ge­burts­ort von Aphro­di­te sein soll. Wir ha­ben ein per­fek­tes Ti­ming und se­hen noch ei­nen klei­nen Son­nen­un­ter­gang. Im Dun­keln geht es dann er­schöpft, aber mit vie­len tol­len Ein­drü­cken und Er­leb­nis­sen im Kopf und Her­zen, nach Hau­se.  

The really last stop is finally on Petra tou Romiou. Directly on the coast there is a large rock in the water, which is said to be the birthplace of Aphrodite. We have a perfect timing and see a little sunset.

It's already dark when we drive home again: exhausted, but with many great impressions and experiences in our heads and hearts.
